A fire hose is a specialized high-pressure hose that moves and delivers water or other extinguishing agents to put out a fire. Fire hose carries pressurised water at a minimum volume of 0.33 litres per second. Fire hose features a nozzle mounted at one end to control the rate of flow as well as the direction of the water or other fire retardants. Modern fire hoses are made from synthetic elastomers and fibres like nylon filament or polyester as these give extra strength and improved resistance to abrasion. The fire hoses are usually coated with equally tough synthetic rubbers like chloroprene, ethylene propylene, nitrile butadiene, polyurethane, and styrene butadiene. These provide varying levels of resistance to abrasion temperature an ultraviolet radiation. The fire hose has become an indispensable tool in terms of fire emergencies and as advancements in technology continue, new techniques and materials are being used in the production of fire hoses to further boost their efficiency.
